Summary:
The customer’s requirement was to improve train loading efficiency. It was previously deemed that the there was a need to gain clear management information about the nature and flow of vehicles through the terminal routes on a granular (section by section) basis in order to fully evaluate traffic patterns and therefore train loading. David:
- Documented and agreed project plans, scopes and associated budgets
- Managed and facilitated a number of workshops, bringing in technical experts to discuss technological options, whilst managing the focus of a need to generate clear requirements
- Documented and gained agreement upon each element of technical and business requirements and encouraged / helped the customer to generate key performance requirements
- Managed a partner technical team in the generation of a reference design and the technical input for a PQQ, using the OJEU process
- Managed internal consulting teams and partners against customer agreed budgets, co-ordinating timesheets and invoices appropriately
- Led the customer through the OJEU and restricted tender process, generating the PQQ and technical sections for the tender on the customer’s behalf
- Co-ordinated customer and technical expert reviews of tender responses, managing marking and provided professional guidance on next steps with customer
- Planned and agreed prototyping and installation and testing requirements, timeframes and resources

Outcome:
The customer was in a very good position to choose a supplier with minimal risk and a clear commercial understanding of typical costs and benefits. The initial requirement was fulfilled and the additional benefit discovered of further automation of ‘tourist’ customer check-in (giving a stronger business case for implementation).
