Internal Transformation Bid, Financial Analyst – Major UK insurance company

Summary:

This large Insurance company’s IT department needed to develop and independent and un-biased ‘internal transformation bid’ in parallel to external parties developing a response to a previously issued tender for the outsourcing of Data Centres and management of core computing platforms and systems. This was for primarily for comparison of received bids, but also to generate a picture of evolution that could occur and improve the in-house picture. David

  • Assessed their current cost to serve and total cost of ownership (TCO) – the output of which was an As-Is [MS excel] financial model
  • Gained buy-in for the As-Is financial model by working closely with in-house financial stakeholders
  • Presented their current financial picture, highlighted key costs and suggested areas that an outsourcer would look to improve.
  • Assisted technical teams in their consideration of operational and technological improvement – resulting in a number of defined [and documented] initiatives to improve the TCO
  • Mapped the financial benefit of each initiative to overlay the As-Is financial model
  • Generated required financial input to ‘internal-bid’ and helped in the presentation of this data
  • Key Skills Deployed:

  • Senior stakeholder management (Director level)
  • Tenacity to probe and gain answers
  • Financial Analysis
  • Financial modelling
  • Presentation
  • Benefits Realisation
  • Outcome:

The required financial information to support an internal bid was delivered on time and with strong positive feedback from the client. On the basis of information generated, the IT team were able to have a clear picture of the ‘best case’ in house solution and compare directly with the bids received for outsourcing. An informed decision could be made.
