David Young

IT / Telecoms Consultant, Programme Manager and Business Coach

Major Programme Transformation / Organisational Design – National UK telco

Summary:

This large incumbent telecoms operator had recognised the need to improve margin on four of their major programmes. It was felt that many of these large programmes had similar, duplicated functions which, in theory could be combined to release margin improvements to each programme. David:

  • Reviewed As Is Service Management infrastructure and working practices
  • Applied ITIL V3 methodologies in order to rationalise functions across multiple programmes
  • Delivered plan of financial benefit (vs relevant risk) for migration to shared service model
  • Also, as a key part of a small consulting team focussed on other initiatives for potential margin improvement, David’s role was to provide his experience in terms of operational design and delivery specific work-packages within each initiative.

    Key Skills Deployed:

  • Senior stakeholder management (Director level)
  • Workshop Facilitation
  • ITIL V3 Framework application
  • Organisational Design (using RACI)
  • Financial Analysis
  • Report writing and presentation
  • Outcome:

£20million of savings were identified across all initiatives, a specific plan was delivered for re-organisation [towards a shared service environment] within the service management function and an over-arching plan was delivered against all initiatives in order to realise the total benefits. The theory of ‘shared service’ was proved in financial terms and, later, given resources and internal a go-ahead the planned savings will be realised.
